How it began
Our Story began in 2010, while on a walk with my oldest child, 3 at the time. I have always had a true appreciation for all natures wonders and could see the same in him. He had an appreciation for all things great and small and was always asking questions about nature, animals and the world around him. To him the entire world was the size of our street but he wanted to know every inch of it.
One day we were out on a walk, he was in his stroller watching the world go by questioning what and why and how for every other step we took. A fellow resident on our street was out cutting his grass. We walked on by with no thought given to what we had seen continuing on our walk, when i realized he had become strangely quiet.
Thinking he was likely getting sleepy I stopped to cover him up with his blanket when I noticed he was tearing up. Crouched down beside his stroller I asked what was wrong thinking it would be something small and easily solved, when he burst into full out tears.
He could not understand why the man was ‘killing all the beautiful flowers’ growing in his yard, he told me that the bugs and animals needed those flowers. I tried to explain to him that they weren’t really flowers they were just weeds and would grow back, when he looked at me puzzled and said ‘so they’re not pretty?’
At that moment I realized I didn’t have a solve all answer and that maybe I had been looking at things all backwards. We went home had some lunch and he had a nap. When he woke up i thought it would be fun to show him how to ‘save’ the dandelions so we went out into our front yard and picked a whole bucket full.
We then went back inside and I showed him how to put the flowers in a book and ‘squish them’ to press and preserve them forever just like my gran had showed me when I was little.
A few days later the flowers were pressed and perfect but had no purpose, I tried to think of things to do with them to we made some cards, some artwork but nothing lasted too long. After a lot of brainstorming and trial and errors i saw a post online about resin art and sealing things in resin and decided this would be the perfect way to showcase the flowers and keep them forever and so my journey with handmade nature inspired jewelry began.
